Fall is approaching, and as the tradition dictates it’s time for Gibson to reveal its new guitars for the upcoming year! Let’s take a look at what we can expect.
First, there are some new colors that will surely capture your attention. New finishes for the Les Paul Standard with Traditional spec include a stunning blue Cobalt Burst, a stylish cream/beige Mojave Burst and a fiery Blood Orange Burst. All finishes are applied on top of an AAA-grade maple top. The Les Paul Standard High Performance models all have ‘Fade’ colors, such as Hot Pink Fade and Heritage Cherry Fade. Most of these finishes can also be found on the new SG Standard High Performance models.
New for the 2018 range is how the frets are manufactured. The frets on the 2018 Gibsons are all cryogenically treated, which means that the fretwire gets exposed to extreme cold before it’s used on a guitar. This makes the material more resistant to wear, rust and bacteria.
Les Paul Classic
The 2018 Les Paul Classic models are equipped with P90 pickups, for that biting, classic mid-heavy Les Paul tone that many players love.
Many of the new guitars for 2018 have a Slim Taper neck profile which feels very comfortable and is beneficial for fast playing. The Gibson model categories remain as they were, with the SG and Les Paul Standard being available in a Traditional and a High Performance version and subdivisions like the Tribute, Faded, Classic and Studio.
