News from Dunlop

Dunlop is the company that holds guitar effects brands like MXR, Way Huge and the famous Cry Baby wah pedals. At this year’s NAMM, they introduced the new MXR Classic 108 Fuzz Mini and the MXR Sugar Drive; smaller housings for Way Huge’s Blue Hippo Analog Chorus, Russian Pickle and Aqua-Puss Analog Delay and the new Cry Baby Mini 535Q wah.

MXR Classic 108 Fuzz Mini

This new pedal from MXR has all the vintage fuzz tones that you know from the bigger Classic 108 Fuzz, but in a smaller housing. It has the same BC-108 silicon transistor as its bigger brother, for dirty and round fuzz tones. The light blue pedal has controls for Tone and Fuzz and there’s a Buffer switch that you can use if you want to combine the Classic 108 Fuzz Mini with a wah pedal.

MXR Sugar Drive

The Sugar Drive is another mini pedal from MXR. It’s a multi-purpose overdrive pedal that you can use as a clean boost, for dirty drive sounds or to push an already overdriven amp a little further. The pedal provides a transparent, clear overdrive and its circuit is based on a rare, classic and sought-after overdrive pedal (presumably the Klon Centaur).

The Drive control on the Sugar Drive works as a blend control that gradually blends your clean signal with the pedal’s overdrive, for a smooth, amp-like transition into dirtier tones. The built-in charge pump increases the headroom by doubling up the voltage from 9 to 18 volts, so this small pedal has a great dynamic range. There’s also a little Bypass switch on the left side of the enclosure, so you can decide whether you want to use true or buffered bypass.

Way Huge Smalls pedals

The effects pedals from Way Huge have always been, well, kind of huge. Three of their most popular pedals were downsized to easier fit your pedalboard. The Blue Hippo Analog Chorus MkIII, the Russian Pickle Fuzz MkIII and the Aqua-Puss Analog Delay MkIII now all have the ‘Smalls’ prefix as they come in smaller housings. The standard-sized versions of these effects are still available as well.

Dunlop Cry Baby Mini 535Q Wah

Half the size of a standard wah, the Cry Baby Mini 535Q packs the same amazing wah sounds as its big brother. With the Range Selector on the side of the pedal, you can choose between four of the most beloved sweep ranges from the standard 535Q wah. The Q knob controls the response of the wah and there’s also a Volume control and a Boost switch. This mini wah pedal features the legendary red Fasel inductor, so you get a killer sound in a pedalboard-friendly size.
